Product Information
Guar Gum is used as Emulsifying, Stablizing and Thickening Agent for Soups, Sauces, Curries, Ice-cream & Pastries. Guar Gum makes curries with consistent thickness. It is used in Salad Dressings and Curries to prevent the separation of Oil with Vinegar or Water and to keep the Spices in a curry blended in a perfect mixture. Guar Gum is also used in cosmetic formulations such as shampoos, soaps, lip balms, skin salves etc. Guar Gum has 8 times thickening ability than corn starch. Guar gum is commercially extracted from the seeds of the Guar plant through a 4-step process that includes: roasting, de-husking, grinding and sieving. The remaining purified, powdery substance is an off-white, flour-like powder with an earthy odor. India exports 90% of Guar Gum all over the world. MB Herbals Guar Gum is processed from Guar Beans grown in Gujarat, India. We are based at Ahmedabad which is the most prominent Guar Gum manufacturing and exporting city in the world. Our Guar Gum is processed in a Gluten Free facility that produces only a single ingredient - Guar Gum Powder. Nothing Else. MB Herbals Gum Powder does not contain any Fillers or added Sugars. Frequently Asked Questions
Is this really just one ingredient, with no fillers or additives?
Yes. The bag contains only guar gum powder — no anti-caking agents, no added sugars, no preservatives, nothing else.
Will one bag cover both my kitchen and my DIY cosmetic needs, so I can keep fewer products around?
Yes. The same pouch thickens soups, sauces, ice cream, and curries, and also stabilizes shampoos, lotions, and salves, which is ideal if you prefer fewer, multi-purpose staples.
Does the 8x thickening strength mean I can use less and still get the result I want?
Yes. Because it is roughly 8x more potent than corn starch, you only need a small amount per recipe, so the bag lasts a long time and your pantry stays uncluttered.
Will the resealable pack keep things tidy in a minimalist kitchen?
Yes. The 227g resealable pouch stores flat or upright, seals cleanly, and is easy to slot into a small, intentional pantry.
Is the off-white, neutral color something that fits a clean, neutral-toned pantry aesthetic?
Yes. The powder is an off-white shade that looks calm and unobtrusive in clear jars or matte pouches inside a neutral kitchen.
I'm trying to keep my ingredient list to one item per recipe — is this a true one-ingredient thickener?
Yes. There is nothing to combine it with for it to work; it thickens and emulsifies on its own in both hot and cold applications.
Can I finally retire several specialty thickeners and just keep this one?
In many kitchens, yes. It can stand in for corn starch, replace xanthan in many gluten-free bakes, and stabilize dressings and curries, consolidating several jars into one pouch.
Will it work in both savory and sweet recipes, so I don't need separate thickeners?
Yes. It is flavor-neutral and performs well in soups, sauces, curries, ice cream, pastry fillings, and salad dressings alike.
Is the packaging simple and unfussy enough for a clean-counter lifestyle?
Yes. The pouch is straightforward, with no extra plastic trays or inserts, so it can sit on a counter, in a drawer, or decanted into a single jar without waste.
Will one 8 oz bag actually last, or will I run out quickly and need to reorder constantly?
One 8 oz bag lasts a long time. Because you typically use only a teaspoon or two at a time thanks to the 8x strength, a single pouch covers many weeks of regular cooking and DIY projects.
How does this compare to buying separate corn starch and xanthan gum?
It can replace both in many home uses. Corn starch is roughly 8x weaker, and xanthan gum is often pricier and more processed, so one pouch of guar gum can simplify your pantry and your shopping list.
Is it more space-efficient than bulky boxes of starch or flour-based thickeners?
Yes. The 8 oz pouch is compact and resealable, and because a little goes a long way, you can store less product overall compared with standard starch tins.
Is this less processed than the average grocery store thickener?
It is a minimally processed single-ingredient powder made from guar beans, with no additives, which fits a less-is-more ingredient philosophy.
Will using this let me get rid of multiple emulsifiers I currently keep for dressings and DIY projects?
In most home setups, yes. It acts as both a thickener and an emulsifier, so you can often drop specialty emulsifying waxes or gums from your shelf.
I'm worried the earthy odor will clash with my neutral, scent-free home vibe — will it linger?
No. The earthy note is faint and only present in the dry powder; once it is mixed into a recipe or formulation, the smell essentially disappears.
Is the bag itself recyclable, or will it add clutter to my recycling bin?
The flexible pouch is designed to be light and compact, and any minimal outer wrap can typically be recycled locally; the bag's small footprint means very little waste overall.
How do I use guar gum powder to thicken a soup or sauce?
Whisk a small amount — typically about 1/2 to 1 teaspoon per cup of liquid — into cold water to make a slurry, then stir it into your hot soup or sauce and simmer briefly until it thickens.
How much guar gum should I use to replace corn starch in a recipe?
Use roughly 1 part guar gum to 8 parts corn starch. In practice, start with 1/8 the amount of corn starch called for and adjust upward if you want a thicker result.
How do I use it in homemade salad dressing to keep oil and vinegar from separating?
Whisk a tiny pinch — about 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon per cup of dressing — directly into the vinegar or water phase before combining with oil, and shake or blend well for a stable emulsion.
Is this guar gum compatible with both hot and cold recipes?
Yes. It works in hot soups, sauces, and curries, and in cold applications like salad dressings, ice cream bases, and DIY lotions, though a slurry or high-shear mixing helps in cold use.
Will it work with gluten-free flour blends in baking?
Yes. It is commonly added to gluten-free flour blends to improve elasticity, crumb structure, and moisture retention in breads, cakes, and pastries.
What exactly comes in the package when I order it?
You receive a single 8 oz / 227g resealable pouch of pure guar gum powder. No measuring spoons, recipes, or extras are included, so you can use what you already have on hand.
Is guar gum safe to eat daily in normal cooking amounts?
In typical recipe amounts — a teaspoon or two per dish — guar gum has a long history of safe consumption. As with any high-fiber ingredient, very large amounts can cause digestive discomfort, so use it as directed.
How should I store the bag to keep the powder fresh?
Store the resealable pouch in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Properly stored, the powder has a long shelf life without losing thickening power.
How is guar gum different from xanthan gum?
Both are plant-derived thickeners, but guar gum is usually more affordable, more neutral in flavor, and slightly easier to hydrate, while xanthan gum can produce a stronger elastic, gummy texture that some find too sticky in bakes.
